InvestigationCarbapenemase Producing Enterobacteriaceae
IndicationsCarbapenems (imipenem, meropenem and ertapenem) have the most consistent activity of any antibiotics against Enterobacteriaceae. Unlike 3rd and 4th generation cephalosporins, they are not inactivated by AmpC or extended-spectrum ß-lactamases. Carbapenemase-resistance is emerging in ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae, especially Klebsiella spp. and Enterobacter spp. · Resistance involves permeability/efflux changes along with the ESBL. · Ertapenem is more affected than other carbapenems.
