IndicationsRequest test following NICE Guidelines 12 on Suspected Cancer. There may also be local regional changes to these guidelines. Patients with iron deficiency anaemia and a raised FIT are more likely to have CRC. For guidelines see NICE CG12 and DG56.

Uncertainty of testingNot many tests are 100% sensitive or 100% specific. FIT testing will miss some cancers so a referral may still be indicated if the FIT results is normal but there are red flags. Most slightly positive results are false positive but malignancy if possible should fully assessed for.
